Stunning Autumn Wedding at The Thatch Barn
I think that Autumn is possibly my favourite season for Weddings, especially a country wedding with a rustic feel and for this Wedding The Thatch Barn in Yelling, Cambridgeshire was the perfect venue.
I love how the seasonal colours can both blend and contrast with the purity of the brides dress and how the warm colours and textures of a barn beautifully compliment the soft light of October.
All of these things came together perfectly as Sophie & Dom’s travel themed Wedding at The Thatch Barn in Yelling, Cambridgeshire.
The Wedding
We kicked off at Sophie’s parents home in the village of Willingham for some bridal prep shots with Sophie and her bridesmaids before heading over to the local church for the ceremony.
Sophie was really keen to get married in her local church as she had grown up and spent her life in the village so it simply seemed like the natural thing to do.
After the emotional ceremony the excited wedding guests were transported to the reception on a classic red double decker London bus while the Bride and Groom tagged along in a classic 1960’s blue Mini. A distinctly British feel and the vibrant colours were a great fit for my photography style.
The couple have spent a lot of time traveling together and there were lots of things to commemorate this scattered around the beautiful barn location. Travel photos, trinkets and keepsakes along with travel related quotes.
The tables were all named after travel locations that they had visited together with the top table being named Indonesia the destination of their forthcoming honeymoon.
For the couple portraits we didn’t have to move far at all. The venue has a lovely wooded area which acts as a great backdrop but the real show stopper was the amazing sunset in the field behind which was perfect for me to capture my signature backlit shot. The gourds at The Thatch Barn really do work perfectly for this shot.
With the portraits in the bag it was time to party and this was definitely a party crowd, the dance floor was rammed as everyone enjoyed wedding band The Mighty Macca. Even the groom’s nan couldn’t resist getting on stage and Bride Sophie had a blast taking to the mic as lead singer for one of the tunes. Who cared that she didn’t know the words!
This wedding was a sheer joy to shoot from start to finish.
Congratulations Sophie & Dom.
The Thatch Barn
A Grade II listed, thatched barn in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside is a brilliant venue for a wedding reception.
The barn has original 400 year old oak beams spanning the width of the building and emphasising the enormous vaulted, beamed roof.
The glazed oak entrance allows light to flood in whilst the slotted windows are all subtly glazed. Even the bar is built from timbers taken from the roof.
To top it all the stunning thatched roof, which keeps the barn cool in the summer, makes this a truly magical venue.
Set on a working farm, it is situated beside crops of wheat, beans, lavender, wild flowers and daffodils, all providing a splendid backdrop for photographs.
The barn is situated in the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside village of Yelling in the Church Farm grounds directly opposite the Holy Cross Church, Yelling.
