Alice & Dan’s Elegant Summer Wedding at The Old Hall
Alice & Dan’s Cambridgeshire wedding was a beautiful mix of timeless elegance, broad smiles and soft golden hour light. On a July afternoon in my home City in Ely, you simply cannot beat a summer Wedding at The Old Hall.
Being a resident of the small Cambridgeshire city of Ely makes me a little biased but I never tire of a wedding at The Old Hall. It’s one of the few special venues that have mastered incredible efficiency and organisation with a unique and personal feel to each and every wedding. Alice & Dan live in a nearby village so having driven by the venue on a regular basis and always they’d always been impressed by it’s excellent location and fantastic views across the local fenland landscape to the towering Ely Cathedral. They had both already made a sub-conscious decision that if ever they did tie the knot, they would have their wedding at The Old Hall.
Due to uncertainty in the weather on the morning of the wedding the call was made to hold the ceremony inside. For a summer wedding at The Old Hall however, this is by no means a compromise. The ceremony was held in The Orangery followed by drinks on the terrace, wedding breakfast in the marquee and then, the sun decided treat us to the most beautiful soft golden light as we heading into the evening for the couple portraits. A 10-15 minute stroll around the venue being the ideal amount of time to capture some stunning wedding portraits without impacting on the bride and groom’s time with guests.
A busy dace floor followed with guests enjoying one of the Cambridge area’s most celebrated wedding and party bands, Truly Medley Deeply. A fantastic wedding day all round.
Why I love a Summer Wedding at The Old Hall
One of my personal favourite things about a summer wedding at The Old Hall is the venues’s flexibility. Since opening The Orangery in 2022 this fantastic space allows for a Wonderful wedding ceremony experience whether you have the nuptials conducted outdoors or inside. It’s normally the decision of the Cambridgeshire registrars to make the call on whether the weather is suitable for an outside ceremony under the pergola with its views across to the cathedral. Understandably this is the first choice of most couples, particularly for a summer wedding at The Old Hall. If the decision is made to go for inside then we had to the fabulous orangery.
There is plenty of space in here for a ceremony here with a good number of guest. There is a really good amount of space for suppliers too, you can easily have celebrants, registrars, photographer and videographer all working alongside each other without getting in each other’s way, something that is important and often overlooked during a wedding ceremony
As Wedding Photographer from Cambridge I have lived in and around Cambridgeshire all my life. I have the opportunity to work at some incredible venues across the beautiful city of Cambridge with the stunning medieval architecture of its colleges and tranquil setting on the sleepy River Cam. The College’s of Cambridge provide a fantastic historical backdrop for many former graduates, often with strong connections to the venues of Cambridge. The Old Ely in Ely, has a completely different vibe offering a specifically Wedding focused experience. The Old Hall specialise in Weddings and it shines through in everything the venue offers, the layout, the schedule and most importantly the spaces provided.
Alice & Dan, like many, many couples had a truly fantastic wedding at The Old Hall. It’s one of 7 weddings I have shot at the venue in 2024 alone and I never tire of being a Wedding photographer there.
